Henry V Wine Lures Musicians

Wine TastingRoseburg, Oregon

A Henry Estates wine labeled Henry V has seduced country music hit-maker BlackHawk to Umpqua Valley Wine Country to perform a benefit concert on September 27, for the new viticulture and enology program at Umpqua Community College.

An excited Sydni Beavers, Umpqua Valley Winegrowers Association president, says, "I mailed Henry Paul (the group's owner and lead singer) an old-fashioned letter and he called the day he got it. Henry understands what this program can do for our area and wants BlackHawk to be a part of it."

This new event, Umpqua Wine and Music Experience, is in UCC’s beautiful new Swanson amphitheater at the center of campus. Gates open at 4 p.m. with local food, wine, and beer available for sale in the pavilion area above the stage. There are only 311 reserved seats and all others are general admission with first come, first served seating. "Some of the best seats in the house will be the least expensive at $20 but require the ticket holder to bring their own blanket," advises Beavers.

Local band, Slowpoke, kicks off the event with their own brand of country music. Signed T-shirts and posters are being given away leading up to the main event. "For a few very lucky people, tickets for a Meet and Greet with the band will be sold," advises Beavers.

Tickets are $40 for very limited reserved seats, $30 for general admission, and $20 for blanket seating. Ticket outlets include Henry Estates Winery, Associated Buyers, and My Coffee. (541-849-2460; tickets.umpqua.edu)
